Thinking about competing in BJJ this fall?
Competing in BJJ is not necessary. However in my experience it catapults your training a little further than you otherwise may have come. That said, this fall there are a lot of options. Smaller regional tournaments do not require any paperwork or documentation. If you are going to sign up for any International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation tournaments, you’ll need to register yourself as a member prior to signing up for the tournament. Please plan accordingly and let us know if you need help.

The IBJJF may or may not still be the gold standard for BJJ competitors but it certainly used to be. If you find yourself in a historically small bracket at regional tournaments due to rank, weight, age or all of the above, the IBJJF might be your best bet. Generally the closest they get to Conshohocken is NY NY. This fall we have the Pan IBJJF No-Gi Jiu Jitsu Championships which is bound to have some top talent on the roster. This promotion requires paperwork to be signed by not only Tim but Team Balance head instructor Phil Migliarese. So don’t wait if you’re serious about competing and get it sorted out sooner than later. Adults Only.

Grappling Industries

Grappling industries holds both submission only tournaments and round robin tournaments. A few times throughout the year they hold them in Broomall Pa and the turn out for White and Blue belts is especially good. Round Robin tournaments are a great way to get used to competing since you get a chance to have a match with everyone else in your bracket rather than a single elimination bracket. Submission only tournaments are a chance to abandon traditional rule sets (to some extent) and finish the match by catching or tapping to a submission. Kids, Teens and Adults.

Tap Cancer Out
Tap Cancer Out is a great tournament or a great cause. We’ve had kids, teens and adults compete in this tournament over the past few years. One of the perks is, should you misjudge your weight or your child’s weight, you won’t be disqualified since they create the brackets after weigh ins. Kids Teens and Adults.
